CMIA Technology on Abbott i2000SR Analyser, Abbott Reagents.

Diagnostic Use / Indications

Vitamin D is a fat soluble steroid prohormone mainly produced photochemically in the skin from 7 dehydrocholesterol.
Vitamin D is one of the 3 major hormones involved in the homeostasis of calcium and phosphate and bone mineralisation
25-(OH) vitamin D is the analyte of choice for determination of vitamin D status. 25-(OH) vitamin D is the major storage form of vitamin D, has a half-life of 2-3 weeks, and is present in blood at concentrations up to 1000x that of the active hormone 1,25-(OH)2-vitamin D which has a half -life of only 4 hours.

Optimum target range for bone health:           50 – 150 nmo/L
Interpretation

25-OH-Vitamin D levels < 25 nmol/L are indicative of moderate to severe vitamin D deficiency.
25-OH-Vitamin D levels 20 – 50 nmol/L are indicative of mild vitamin D deficiency.
25-OH-Vitamin D levels > 200 nmol/L are found in vitamin D toxicity.
