| Interpretation | IgG Subclasses The four subclasses of IgG are distinct in terms of structure and function, and levels in serum. Functional differences occur in relation to complement activation and activation of various immune cells. Furthermore, antibody responses to antigenic stimulation tend to be limited to one or more subclasses. Protein antigens of bacteria, viruses, vaccines, and food, tend to elicit an IgG1 and IgG3 antibody response. Carbohydrate (eg pneumovax 23, Hib vaccine) antigens tend to elicit IgG2 and IgG4 antibody response. |
