11 Deoxycortisol, (Plasma / Serum)
Test Identifier Information | |
Registration Code | CPDS |
Method | ELISA Extracted |
Diagnostic Use / Indications | Provides a differential diagnosis of one form of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) caused by a defect in the 11b hydroxylase enzyme. (see 17a hydroxy progesterone) 11 deoxy cortisol also provides an index of pituitary function when cortisol and 11deoxycortisol are used in conjuction with metapyrone test. 11b hydroxylase is inhibited by metapyrone which results in an increase of cpd S and lowering of cortisol due to the cortisol feed back mechanism on action of ACTH from pituitary. Thus results can help assess pituitary and adrenal functions. |
