It is the active metabolite of Vitamin D, which may be elevated in patients with granulomatous disease and hypercalcaemia. Apart from the rare indication in patients with hypercalcaemia of unknown cause and a suppressed parathyroid hormone there is little or no clinical reason to request this test. For further information contact a Chemical Pathologist or Endocrinologist. |
