Interpretation

Steady- stage is expected after several weeks treatment.

Evidence for efficacy at > 235 pmol/8x10e8 RBCs.

Bone marrow suppression more likely > 400 pmol/8x10e8 RBCs.

Where 6-Thioguanine Nucleotides (6-TGN) levels are < 200 pmol/8x10e8 RBCs 6-Methylmercatopurine levels are reflex tested as an indicator of potential toxicity.

Unacceptable samples

Separated sample - DO NOT CENTRIFUGE and SEPARATE.

Frozen samples - freezing damages the red cells rendering the sample unsuitable for analysis.

Samples greater than 4 days old on receipt in Toxicology will be rejected.
