Interpretation

Once daily dosing is recommended using a target area under the concentration (AUC) curve. Contact the Ward Pharmicist, or the Drug Information Service (03 3640900) for dose adjustment.

Aminoglycoside clearance is reduced with renal impairement.

Trough: <0.5 mg/L

AUC: 70-100 mg/L/hr

Additional Information

Samples containing Carbenicillin or piperacillin should be stored frozen if a delay in analysis of more than 8 hours is anticipated to avoid falsely low gentamicin results due to in vitro inactivation.
