Interpretation

Extractable Nuclear Antigen antibodies - identification
These antibodies have high specificity, but relatively low sensitivity for various connective diseases:
Ro/SSA: 60-70% Sjögren's Syndrome, 30-40% SLE
SSB/La: 50-60% Sjögren's Syndrome, 10-15% SLE
RNP: 95-100% MCTD
Sm: 30-40% SLE
Jo-1: 30% Polymyositis
rP: 45-90% Severe depression or psychosis due to SLE, 12-20% non psychotic SLE

Mi-2: 15-30% Dermatomyositis (DM)

Additional Information

Counter current immunoelectrophoresis is used to detect antibodies against the following antigens: Ro/SSA, La/SSB, RNP, Sm, Jo-1, ribosomal P, Ku , PCNA, Scl-70, PM-Scl, Mi-2.

Identification is performed on positive screens only.

If not already requested, samples testing positive by ENA may be reflex tested for ANA to confirm band identity.
