Endomysial Antibody
Postive in approx 99% of patients with untreated Coeliac disease.

IgA deficient patients with Coeliac disease may be missed. If coeliac disease is still suspected in patient with a negative EMA then total IgA SHOULD BE MEASURED and TTG IgG REQUESTED.

Significance of a weak EMA is unknown.

Additional Information

Patients with IgA deficiency will give falsely negative results on EMA.

If the patient is IgA deficient then TTG IgG SHOULD be measured by ELISA.
