HLA-B27
Test Identifier Information | |
Registration Code | B27 |
Method | The assay uses a real-time PCR method for the detection of the HLA-B27 genotype using allele-specific primers combined with a TaqMan fluorescent minor groove binder (MGB) probe. |
Diagnostic Use / Indications | Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the musculoskeletal system and characterised by absence of ANA and rheumatoid factor. The association between AS and HLA-B27 is so pronounced that the presence of B27 can be used as a diagnostic aid very early in disease development. 90-95% of AS patients are HLA-B27 positive compared with only 5-8% of the normal (Caucasian) population. |
